Urania Paulino joined the firm in 2003 and became senior counsel in 2009. She has 14 years of experience providing legal advice in the areas of foreign investment, corporate law, aviation law, banking law, contracts, free trade agreements, distribution and mergers and acquisitions.
Urania assists JetBlue Airways Corporation, a leader in the Dominican aviation market, in the opening of new routes, as well as on all regulatory and safety issues to ensure the correct functioning of their operations in the country. She also represented the Dominican Lawyers Guild during the negotiations of the Free Trade Agreement between Central America and the Dominican Republic (DR-CAFTA), protecting the interests of Dominican lawyers.
Urania has assisted prestigious international brands such as Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, L’Oreal, Volvo, Fiat, Daimler, General Electric, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Heinz, Dell, Hasbro, Holsum, among others in matters related to distribution and franchising. She has assisted several international companies in their establishment in the country, specifically a gas compression plant and a liquor aging company.
Urania was part of the legal team that advised the Association of Soft Drink Industries of the Dominican Republic, Inc. (ASIBEGAS) in the process initiated before the Unfair Trade Practice Regulatory Commission with regards to the implementation of safeguard measures to imports of containers and glass jars from all origins. This is one of the first cases brought before this regulatory committee pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 1-02 on Unfair Practices Trade and Safeguard Measures.
She has been recognized by Who's Who Legal in Aviation and Transport.
Urania received her Bachelor of Laws from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in 1999. In 2001, she graduated from the Master in International Legal Studies from Washington College of Law in American University. She has participated in several law and business programs in Georgetown University (2002) and Florida International University (2003, 2004). She has attended courses and seminars on issues related to real estate, tax, among others. She is a member of the Dominican Bar Association and is fluent in both Spanish and English.
