Agreement to Accelerate Patents in the Dominican Republic
In April of this year, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI) signed an agreement that will reduce the time it takes to obtain patents in the Dominican Republic through the Accelerated Patent Grant (APG) program.
With the new Accelerated Patent Grant (APG) program, applicants who already hold a patent in the U.S. will be able to speed up the process of obtaining a patent in the Dominican Republic. Here are the key details:
Collaboration: Innovators and startups will be able to secure patent protection more quickly.
Duration: The agreement is valid for 5 years.
Impact: Applicants with a USPTO patent can submit their application to ONAPI at any stage of the granting process, as long as they comply with Dominican Republic patent laws.
