Pellerano & Herrera Advises ITA Airways on the Launch of Operations in the Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – Pellerano & Herrera is serving as legal counsel to ITA Airways in connection with the launch of its operations in the Dominican Republic through a direct route between Rome and Santo Domingo.
ITA Airways is Italy’s flag carrier, providing passenger and cargo transportation services to domestic and international destinations. The company is 59% owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance and 41% owned by Deutsche Lufthansa AG. It operates a fleet of 99 aircraft, most of which are latest-generation models.
The firm is providing the Italian airline with comprehensive advice on the legal, regulatory, tax, corporate, and compliance matters applicable to its proposed operations in the country.
Comprehensive Legal Advice
The engagement includes reviewing aviation and operational requirements, identifying the relevant authorizations and permits, and analyzing the airline’s obligations before the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), and other competent authorities.
The firm’s advice also encompasses assessing the alternatives and requirements for establishing a corporate presence in the country; the tax implications of the proposed operations; corporate structure, legal representation, and corporate governance; as well as anti-money laundering obligations, regulatory reporting, and ongoing compliance.
As part of this process, the Pellerano & Herrera team recently participated in a meeting with the JAC to discuss the economic and regulatory aspects associated with establishing the new route. The meeting was led by JAC President Julio Peña Guzmán and was also attended by the institution’s Secretary, Bernarda Franco; representatives of ITA Airways; and members of the JAC’s technical team.
The proposed direct connection would expand air travel options between the Dominican Republic and Italy and help strengthen tourism, commercial, and cultural ties between the two countries. It would also provide a new travel alternative for the Dominican community residing in Europe.
