Barrick Gold to invest more than US$3B in Dominican mine
Published on:Santo Domingo. -Barrick Gold Corporation yesterday announced it will invest more than US$3 billions in several mining projects in the country, due to its confidence and stability they said exists in Dominican Republic. A delegation of Barrick Gold headed by its CEO Aaron W. Regent visited president Leonel Fernandez in the National Palace, to provide information and details of its projects in the gold mines at Pueblo Viejo, Sanchez Ramirez province (northeast).
Also present in the meeting were the Venezuelan mogul Gustavo Cisneros, the Dominican Manuel Alejandro Grullón, president the bank group Popular, Felix Garcia, president of the group Caribe, former United States ambassador Hans H. Hertell and the lawyer Luis Rafael Pellerano, of the law firm Pellerano & Herrera. It was reported that the visit was to present to the chief executive the new CEO of Barrick Gold Corporation, which has Latin America’s biggest gold processing operation. Barrick Gold has also been hiring midlevel management personnel for its Santo Domingo offices located in the Acropolis tower.
