Biography

Lucy Objío joined the firm in 2009 and became Partner in 2012 leading the Sports practice area. She has over 18 years of experience practicing law, concentrating in civil litigation, commercial, labor, constitutional law, intellectual property, copyright, consumer law, insurance litigation, Sports law, real estate, aviation and maritime law, as well as commercial arbitration. She has experience advising clients on banking, commercial and corporate regulations and franchise and distribution issues, among other things. She regularly advises companies and local and international financial institutions in the areas of complex contracts, dispute resolution, real estate disputes, intellectual property litigation, shareholder agreements, telecommunications, and damage awards resulting from lawsuits.


Lucy has participated in many cases in the maritime area, involving issues as varied as maritime embargo claims, naval mortgage executions, freight disputes, insurance claims, cargo claims and other related matters. She also has represented clients in the majority of the labor disputes handled by the firm, with a success record of over 90 percent. Among other matters, she has represented:

- Nexus, in a US$110 million lawsuit against the Dominican government involving contractual rights with respect to a concession for the construction of a marina in the province of Samaná.

- The Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves professional baseball teams in the defense of claims filed by prospective players; and

- An information technology company in a lawsuit against former employees for breach of non-disclosure agreements based on the country’s competition laws, which was the first litigation of its kind in the Dominican Republic.

- Grupo Vidanta. Legal representation of a Mexican hotel group in a claim for reimbursement of US$2,500,000.00 for the termination of the sales promise contract of a land plot located in the Eastern part of the country.

- Wartsila North America. Legal assistance to an energy company in its conflict with a local representation company, in the claim to pay a commission percentage for attracting local clients for electricity generation projects, valued at €$305,000,000.00.

- David Ortiz. Legal representation of the former Major League Baseball star in a criminal proceeding for alleged psychological and economic violence against his former romantic partner.

Lucy has been recognized by Chambers & Partners Latin America, Legal 500 and Who's Who Legal in dispute resolution. She was recognized among TOP25 LatAm Women in Litigation in 2018, 2019 and 2020;  and was selected as Litigation Star in 2019 and 2020 by Benchmark Litigation.

Lucy received her Bachelor of Laws, cum laude, from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) in 2002. In 2007, she graduated from the Master of Business Law program at the University of Alcalá, Spain. In 2014, she pursued a Master in Civil Liability Law from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra and Université de Savoie. By 2020, she completed the Executive MBA Gadex master program, taught by the Escuela de Negocios Formato Educativo with the University of Cádiz. She has attended courses and seminars on issues related to jurisdiction and the international criminal courts, international commercial arbitration and social security. Lucy has graduated from the Lex Mundi Institute Cross-Border Dispute Resolution Program. She has taught Civil Procedure in the Masters of Legal Practice program at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra and the Pellerano & Herrera Foundation. She is a member of the Dominican Bar Association and is fluent in Spanish, English and French.
