Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – In response to the profound human and social impact caused by the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub, the law firm Pellerano & Herrera has launched a legal guidance program aimed at families, guardians, and relatives of children and adolescents who have been left orphaned by the tragedy.
On April 8, 2025, the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo collapsed during a live music event. The tragic incident resulted in several fatalities and injuries, with many families directly affected. Among the deceased were parents of young children, which has led to significant legal and social challenges concerning guardianship, inheritance, and the protection of minors.
The firm, composed of 42% parents, is mobilizing from its professional and human core to provide legal support during a time of great social vulnerability and legal complexity.
“We are not just lawyers who help. We are mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters who will use what we know—law—to protect the future,” said Lucy Objío, partner at the firm, who served as spokesperson during the launch of the legal guidance program.
The initiative will offer public and accessible guidance to all interested parties through legal guides, webinars, podcast episodes, and other outreach resources. The focus includes topics such as legal guardianship, inheritance, insurance, pensions, child migration, and comprehensive rights protection.
The digital guides will answer questions such as: “What should I do if I’m now responsible for an orphaned child?” and “How do I manage inheritance, insurance, or pensions on behalf of minors?” as well as other frequently asked questions about legal guardianship in the Dominican Republic.
These materials will be available starting June 2 on a media platform that includes the firm’s website, social media, messaging channels, direct email, and any mass media outlets that wish to join this cause.
The attorneys at Pellerano & Herrera will guide those interested in how to uphold the rights of children and adolescents. The firm also plans to form partnerships with national and international organizations working in child protection, with the goal of amplifying the reach of their message.
Ricardo Antonio Pellerano, managing partner of the firm, emphasized that this project is part of the organization’s longstanding tradition of social contribution, promotion of legal knowledge, and timely response to major societal issues with a legal dimension.
At the end of the initiative’s launch video, published yesterday on the firm’s social media platforms, Objío concluded: “When it’s needed most, the law can also be an act of love. And we’ll be here to protect these children and adolescents, who are now our children too.”
